Neuro-Stim Procedure

The Doctors TV discussed the Neuro-Stim Procedure for Migraine treatment with Dr. Kenneth Reed today. If you follow this link, you can scroll to the bottom and watch 2 different videos from the show (Warning: the left one is pretty graphic). This is the procedure I had done in December 2010 (it was definitely surreal watching the video about what some of the things they did during my surgery).

More information can be found here. Also, the Reed Migraine Center has a website set up with more information, including upcoming Get Your Life Back seminars.

  1. I'm still mourning the loss of my chance for the stimulation trial. I actually have new insurance now that my cover it, but now my new Neuro thinks it's a bad idea. =(

  2. Jessica, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know why you lost your chance for the stimulation trial, or why your new Neuro thinks it's a bad idea... but, I'd recommend you just keep it in the back of your mind. Take care of yourself, dear.

  3. Hi jamie, my name is kristin and i have to start by saying i was so happy and a little relieved to find your blog. Ever since I was very young I've suffered from migraines since age five or six-that's as far back as i can remember. but I'm 22 now and I've been off work since november on short term disability all because of these migraines...they are ruining my life and I'm just afraid that I'm not going to get better in time to get back to work before my short term disability is up (because Michigan law says after 6 months on short term disability the employer has to let you go). I don't know what to do anymore and I was just wondering if you're able to work or not? And if you've had this problem too? Is there any help out there for migraine patients? thanks jamie-Kristin

  4. Kristin, I'm so happy that you found my blog. I'm so sorry that you've been experiencing migraines for so long, and especially that they're affecting your life so much right now.

I don't know anything about Michigan law, so I'm not quite sure what to say about the short-term disability / work situation. Does your workplace have long-term disability as an option? I was on short-term for so long, and then have been on long-term since then. My official "separation of employment" was one year after I started on short-term disability. I would check if there are any long-term disability options available to you.

IF your disability continues to prevent you from being able to work, you can consider applying for Social Security Disability (SSDI); which you'd be eligible for after being unable to work for 12 consecutive months (due to disability).

I haven't been able to work for over 3 years. I had a car accident in October 2008, when I was 23 years old. That's what started my chronic, debilitating migraines. I've been on disability, since then... definitely not without a fight, though! I needed an attorney for my car accident, so he helped me through the disability arena (with my previous employer and with SSDI).

I urge you NOT to give up! There's help out there for migraine patients. I just changed over to my own domain name, so I haven't had a chance to add back the blogs that I follow... once I get them re-entered, you can take a look at some of the bloggers that I follow. I've found a HUGE amount of support by connecting with fellow migraineurs online. Also, toward the upper-left of my blog, there's a link under the title "Pages" that says "Migraine Links." There are some resources there for headaches and migraines, including Migraine.com.

I hope that helps answer some of your questions and concerns. I'm more than happy to help you, in any way that I can. I know how difficult things can be, especially when you're so young. Please feel free to email and/or comment about anything at all.

    Blessings!
