Glimmer of Hope

I have finally "broken" the week-long migraine, so now I am just trying to recover from the aftermath of that storm.

I have been looking online at a lot of different websites and blogs about migraines and chronic pain. I came across a wonderful blog, Chronic Warrior. I was touched by many of the things posted on the site. Perhaps God's purpose in my chronic illness/disability is to bring me closer to Him... to work through me to glorify Him.

I have definintely not yet come to terms with (or accepted) having chronic pain or the changes and limitations that I now have in my life, but this site brought me 1) a new perspective of chronic pain, and 2) hope that this can actually bring me closer to God.

"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:13)

  1. Well Jamie,
It looks like you and I are quite different people sharing a very similar condition. How strange to come together here. But I take what life throws. So, on the topic of purposes in chronic illness - one difference we have is that you have such deep faith. I admire it but I do not share it. I do however have a similar experience to share. Since struggling with chronic illnesses, I have a store of empathetic experience to draw on in dealing with others who are in difficult times, especially through illness. As a teacher in higher ed, I was able to assist students who were acutely or chronically ill or disabled. When I eventually decided to end my career path towards being a professor, it was to take up working in student disability services to help students who have disabilities be in and achieve equal access in college. It is exceptionally rewarding work and I am grateful every day.

I am glad you have faith, and glad it gives you hope. I hope your faith helps you find strength to deal with this - it is very difficult and I do feel so much for you.

  2. It is interesting that you were on your way to becoming a professor. That was my goal, too. But I'm not sure whether I can even complete my master's degree with how bad these migraines have gotten. How interesting that you work at a college to provide disability services - that's great.

As to my faith, I have struggled greatly through these trials (and that's putting it mildly). I have great family and friends that guide me back to the Lord, when I lose sight of Him. I am truly blessed.
